How to improve your skills as a server

Some years ago I was desperate for a part-time job. I ended up interviewing for a server job at a casual hospitality agency, despite having no experience in the industry.

Upon sharing that I hadn't worked as a waitress before (rookie mistake), the interviewer started to lecture me about how service is a serious profession, how people train for years to be a server, and so forth. I thought he was having a laugh. I was so wrong (and I got stuck washing dishes for the next 4 months). 

A good waiter or waitress needs to have a decent set of skills. As a server, you have to juggle a lot of things at the same time while remaining calm. It's a stressful job, especially for beginners. For those who feel overwhelmed, I've composed a few tips to help you become a better server.
