New course: Dustin Haarstad teaches American whiskey

Posted by Emily Tatti on Mar 3, 2017 1:33:21 PM

We’re excited to announce the release of our American whiskey courses with Seattle bartender and beverage consultant Dustin Haarstad.

Dustin is the founder of Blind Tiger Cocktail Co., a cocktail consulting company. He's also currently a bartender at Canon in Seattle, which has been nominated for four James Beard Awards and is recognized as one of the best cocktail and whiskey bars in America. We interviewed Dustin late last year about his background as a bartender, and it quickly became clear he had a lot more knowledge to share with our audience.

Dustin’s courses are perfect for beginners who have a basic understanding of whiskey, and bartenders who want to deepen their knowledge with some more intermediate lessons.

Over fourteen courses, Dustin explores bourbon whiskey throughout its lifecycle – from how it’s distilled, to its origins in American cocktail culture, to barrel aging and nuances in flavor.

One of our highlights includes a lesson on whiskey tasting with Matt Hoffman, the Master Distiller at Seattle’s Westland Distillery. Matt was recently recognized by Forbes as one of 30 under 30 tastemakers redefining food and drink in America. Westland has also become known as America's leading single malt distiller. It’s riveting to watch Dustin and Matt talk about whiskey tasting with such passion and insight.
