Who is Fady Hachem?

Fady Hachem is a renowned interior designer. As the principal of Hachem, he has designed iconic hospitality venues including the Adelphi Hotel, dessert bar Om Nom and the luxurious Bond Lounge. His work has been featured in countless publications, including The Age, Collective, Belle and Inside Out.

How Innovation Equals Revenue – A Quick Recap

In his Typsy Live talk, Fady discusses how we are more interconnected than ever before due to the internet – which means hospitality businesses are competing with venues all over the world when it comes to the design of their space and the experience it offers. As a result, interior design and service need to complement each other if venues are going to create a truly unique atmosphere for their guests.

Fady uses the Adephi Hotel as a case study so hospitality businesses can understand how they should approach the redesign process.

"If you play it safe, you have to compete with everyone else. If you're different and innovative, you have a better chance of success."

When he was brought onto the project, the Adelphi had a poor reputation in the travel marketplace. It was up to Hachem to come up with a memorable design that would reverse this negative stigma. What they decided to do was create the world’s first dessert hotel.

Transforming the Adelphi brand resulted in two things – first, it got people talking on social media, in a big way. And second, it allowed operators to increase room rates by 60% within a year.

By taking a risk and finding a concept that engaged the community, the Adelphi was able to significantly improve its revenue. With a little bit of creativity and innovation, there is no reason other hospitality businesses can’t do the same.
